Louisiana’s Commitment to School Choice, Opportunity for All
By Arthur Dupre, State Director
“If you want to be successful, you must stand on the shoulders of giants.”
In my nearly three years at ACE Scholarships, this phrase has been cemented in my psyche. I’ve learned quickly that the only path to success is to lean on and learn from the greatest around us. In my time at ACE, I have been unbelievably blessed to meet not just some of the most impressive leaders of industry or of the non-profit world, but in them, I’ve also met some of the most sincere, selfless individuals. John and Carrie Morgridge and Cheryl Hillen, highlighted in this month’s newsletter, are giants and their imprints on Louisiana, through ACE, are gigantic.
As many of you may know, ACE Scholarships is a national organization that has quickly expanded to become a national force in the school choice movement. ACE supporters include some of the top business and community leaders who possess a common purpose—providing children in poverty with access to a quality education at the school of a parent’s choice, and through that great education, access to the American Dream.
As ACE embarks on its fourth year in Louisiana, we have nearly 1,300 students that exude the same contagious passion and energy of The Morgridges and embody the same bold, tenacious spirit of Cheryl Hillen. These children are fighters; they are resilient. They are the greatest underdog stories that are still being written.
The only barrier blocking their collective path is one thing: opportunity. We can give that to them. We must give that to them.
People from all over our nation see promise and potential in these kids and in the Louisiana school-choice movement. I hope that belief inspires us to stand up and step forward. When we do, it will make all the difference in their lives and all the difference in the future success and sustainability of our state.
