Other Programs
ACE is committed to the youth of Colorado, not just as they move through elementary, middle and high school, but also as they enter the next phase of their life.
The College Prep & Alumni program serves as a bridge for K-12 scholarship recipients, providing guidance and resources for their successful transition into a college environment. This program was established for ACE students whose socio-economic background has not traditionally led them to pursue a college education.
College application processes present an overwhelming challenge to the majority of our students, who are often the first in their family to consider college.
To date, college prep programming has enabled more than 200 ACE alumni to successfully enroll in college. Last year, EVERY 2009 ACE graduate went to college.
Horace Mann Scholarship Fund
In addition to its K-12 scholarship program, ACE has also committed resources to help students at one of the lowest performing Denver Public Schools, Horace Mann Middle School.
ACE founder, Alex Cranberg, made a personal commitment to provide college scholarships for every student attending Horace Mann in the fall of 2004 on the sole condition that they persevered to graduate from high school.
There were approximately 550 eligible Horace Mann students whose scholarships will be fulfilled through ACE. Horace Mann Middle School was specifically chosen because its targeted high-school graduation rate was the lowest among the DPS middle schools at that time. Through a donor-advised fund, ACE provides each student with a four-year maximum tuition amount equal to that of Metro State College of Denver’s tuition.
ACE began distributing resources to Horace Mann students in the fall of 2008.
Advocacy
Although ACE is encouraged by the number of lives the scholarship program impacts each year, it is critical that additional school choice options such as charter schools, tax credits and other innovative models be made available to all Colorado low-income families.
It is part of the ACE mission to increase awareness of, and generate support for, expanded school-choice programs that enhance statewide accountability for public school performance. The growing body of national research overwhelmingly reveals an upward trend of increased student academic achievement in school districts where genuine parental choice exists.
Working closely with community leaders, many of whom serve on the Board of Directors, and alongside other state and local partners, ACE is committed to supporting innovative school-choice initiatives throughout Colorado, and raising awareness for important education related initiatives and legislation.
We believe that each of these initiatives leads to a vibrant and competitive education environment that will benefit every child in Colorado.
