Amoriah
Upon first meeting Amoriah, we thought she was at least a third grader because of her natural interaction with adults. We were startled to discover that she’s actually in kindergarten at her inner-city ACE school. She says she likes the school “because they tell you things that are true and you learn a lot … and because of the kids and the teachers.”
She’s echoing why her parents chose this private school. They believe an education should be more than a download of information; it must also deliver a perspective and reinforce values matching their own. After all, parents are the customers in this education deal, and private schools still enjoy the luxury of being free to serve their customers’ individual needs.
This particular school was specifically designed for inner-city children like Amoriah, who it turns out wants to grow up to “work for a wireless company and fix phones.” Pretty market savvy for a five year old, but then most of today’s kids have to teach their parents how to use all the new technology.
